Fuck Higuain. He never turns up in the big games, he's not as good as Benzema at all, he's slow and is getting worse. Falcao is so far ahead of Higuain now.

2 years ago Cassilas was unstoppable. It's only relatively recent history where he's become mistake-prone, I blame that on cockiness personally. Even last years record-breaking season Cassilas was fantastic, but he definitely wasn't BITW then either. I watch Neur weekly, he is the best shot-stopper in the world, he's so demanding and powerful in his box, he catches a LOT, he's safe, he's smart, he's easily the best keeper in the world and to be honest it's by quite a margin now. I guess Buffon can sometimes challenge him, Cassilas on his day can maybe challenge him, Hart is far too inconsistent to be in this category in my opinion.

Casillas is just everything I hate in a keeper. He's incredibly overrated just because he makes every save look fucking 10x better than it should do. His 1 on 1 stuff is absolutely horrible, he guesses which way to go and of course it looks incredible when it comes off, but it makes him easy to beat for the striker. He's has a tendency to avoid crosses which he should come out for (something Neuer excels at), and his positioning is so weak that he means he has to produce these 'unbelievable' saves to recover from it. Always preferred (and still do) Buffon. The guy basically has no faults.

You're naming the faults he has now, I don't disagree with the majority of those, he USED to be incredible. He's a name mentioned for greatest keeper of all time, I don't think anyone can deny it. He's just lost it now (or lost form anyway).

Overrated? Now, yes. Two years ago or bits of last year? No. Every keeper has weaknesses and crosses will always be his because of his size, he makes up for it for being the (previous, not now) greatest shot-stopper in the world.

I can't help but appreciate him, he's one of the greatest keepers I've had the privilege to watch. I watch him every week and have done for ages, I'm not sure how much you watch him but he's been very solid (apart from this season).

I used to watch a lot more Spanish football (rarely these days, mainly a SPL man) and he was weak in those areas. You're always gonna find good compilation videos of him as he's such a strong shot stopper and as I mentioned, he was always slightly out of position and his 1 on 1 work is horrible. He was still one of the best in the world at the time, but Julio Cesar, Van Der Sar and Buffon were all stronger at the time IMO.

Speaking of compilations, here's one of Gordon - guy was an unbelievable shot stopper. There were Hibs and Scotland games where I used to just sit and admire his positioning, it was always so beautiful :fap:

"1 on 1 work is horrible" - Are you sure you used to watch La Liga? Like weekly? Enough for you to comment on that? He's known as one of the greatest 1 on 1 keepers around lmao. It's like saying "RVP is great, but he needs to work on his finishing" lol.

Buffon and Van Der Sar would always rival him, commenting on who is the "best" is always subjective, but I don't think you can be as negative about Iker as you are (imo), especially as you watched him in his prime periods it seems (2 or so years ago). How much have you seen of Cesar? If you want to use the word overrated, it's basically tatoo'd on his gloves.

Though I agree that Cassilas is a liability now, he's really out of form and has been for a year and a half or so now. It's hilarious and ironic that the man they want to replace the unreliable mistake-prone Cassilas is David De Gea :lol1:

Craig Gordon is awesome by the way, it's a shame most of the modern fans have no idea who he is.

The reason he is viewed as one of the best 1 on 1 keepers is because he occasionally makes great saves from them when he guesses a side though. So often he gets beat from going too early and the striker slotting it past him. If he's the best in the world @ 1 on 1s then the standard has dropped significantly since Schmeichel has retired.

I actually watched quite a bit of Cesar a couple of years ago as I had a fetish for Mourinho's Inter. One of the best defensive sides ever so I guess he did have a distinct advantage there. But always just thought he was a really good keeper.

But seriously how much are they planning on paying for him? That's such a random move, Casillas >>> De Gea by miles lol.

Lol come on, are you a football coach? It's reading the game, not guessing. Like in Fifa when I read a run I move my player in that space BEFORE he even makes that run, it's a risk and when you are wrong it looks horrible, but if you are right you stop them. I doubt you can become one of the GOAT keepers and best 1 on 1'er from "lucky guesses" lmao. Cassilas in his early years anyway was an incredible one on one'er, he's so athletic, he's quick, he's small which makes it easier and you never felt like the striker could score. As a consistently watcher of Real, I was always comfortable that Real wouldn't concede when there was a 1 on 1 situation.

Doubt I can change your opinion as it seems pretty locked down lol, so let's just agree to disagree. Mourinho's inter were incredibly good defensively, but did you actually enjoy watching that? Typical Scotland :pity1:. And I think they were planning 20+m or something like that, Da Gea is still like 20 or 21 and is a fantastic shot-stopper, but he lacks in everything else lmao.

Meant to say GK coach lmao

I think playing in goals and learning from certain coaches and my Grandad has made me so set in my ways with this sort of thing. My coach who I've trained with for 6 or 7 years I think(?) who coached with Celtic and Dundee United as well as my Grandad, who trialed for Arsenal and only failed to get in because he was too small, and rejected a contract with Huddersfield (Championship level at the time) because he was getting paid more to work elsewhere, like 5 pound a week lol. But yeah they both say that the worst thing to do in a 1 on 1 is to go early, my coach always does it at training and if he sees a shoulder dip even slightly he'll put it the other way and usually score. I'm not saying Casillas is bad at them necessarily, but not as strong as most the other top keepers as he has that tendancy to go early which I hate.

Yeah I just have a defensive and Mourinho fetish. It's scary at times. Although I don't care for his Real much these days as he doesn't play as defensively and is pretty much losing on purpose lol.

Oh and marking for the Gordon post, the guy had so much talent, just ruined by injuries. Such a shame.

Oh by the way, I like defensive play as long as it's not stupid shit like playing 4-5-1 at home to Macedonia when you need a win

Newcastle's hopes of keeping hold of captain Fabricio Coloccini have received a major boost after Argentinian club San Lorenzo announce he will not be joining them.

Magpies officials have been locked in talks with Coloccini's representatives this week after the defender stated his desire to return to the club where his father, Osvaldo, is currently a youth coach.

"Finally, after long negotiations, we announce that Fabricio Coloccini will not join the roster of San Lorenzo," they Tweet. "It is not possible to release the Newcastle player.. and therefore the club will look for another alternative to strengthen the defence."
