My closest was Kenta and Rock. I do think that people SOMEWHAT overrates Rock's ring skills due to his popularity. Also, I think that Kenta is one of the greatest wrestlers ever.

My closest was Misawa and Austin. With Kobashi and Rock it's not even close. With Misawa and Austin it was a little closer as Austin was a great in-ring worker, but Misawa has probably had more great matches than anyone who ever wrestled, the only people that I could put over him are Flair and HBK. Flair because he inspired an entire generation and HBK because he was the Misawa North American equivalent with mic skills and had major influence over the young guys.

But between Misawa and Kobashi, there isn't a pair of workers in this tourney who had more great matches. But mic skills have to be taken into account, but with Austin and Rock, the two best mic workers in this round, they just don't have 1/10th of the great matches these Jap cats do. Plus Misawa and Kobashi were doing equally big business in Japan during the 90's, so they were legit draws.

And that's one of the flaws of this tourney, you will see alot of guys vote against someone simply because they haven't seen them work and that's where these guys should null vote. But what can ya do?

EDIT: Think I might be saddest about Dynamite not getting anylove. Hennig was really good, but at his best he couldn't touch Dynamite. Seriously, go track down Dynamite taking on Tiger Mask. Those matches are still top notch and hold up to anything being put out today and those matches are near 30 years old. Just amazing when you see it.

For me, it's not like I've never seen either guy at some point but a lot gets lost in the culture barrier, y'know? Like even if I was completely familiar with their bodies of work it would still be hard for me to pick them over Austin/Rock just because when I judge best wrestler I try and take all aspects of wrestling into account and it's impossible for me to judge mic skills with those guys.

Jesus Christ, after looking over Kobashi and Misawa's Wiki pages and seeing their accomplishments its no wonder that they were nominated.
Heres something for people who don't know anything about either guys and would like to know a little

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenta_Kobashi#Championships_and_Accomplishments

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsuharu_Misawa#Championships_and_Accomplishments

honestly i think the two of these guys have more 5 star matches then ive seen combined from everyone in the states.

Can't fuck with Dynamite's ring work, but just like a SCSA vs the Japs... Hennig got a better total package considering the English speaking market IMO. I'm similar to JoMo in the sense that without the promo's, angles and so forth Jap wrestling just doesn't get over on me in the same way...

Tourney thing has got me thinking though.... Damn! ...How good would Steamboat vs Taker have been (especially with Taker as a sick, evil heel) ?????
