IWF Book Club: Chapter 1

Anybody can get in on this. First book up is considered a modern classic, written by Anthony Burgess in 1962. It is the dystopian tale of Alex and his droogs as they travel through milk bars and engage in the occasional act of the old ultra-violence.

This book is a times rather disturbing and the language, well the slang that Alex and his friend use is based from the Russian language. You may have to read it two or three times (I did), but it's short and you'll find yourself discovering new things with each new read.

For those of you who can find it at the library excellent. However this book also is published under the Penguin Modern Classics division and should be affordable. (Considerably less than $15)

Let's give ourselves a month for this one and anyone with questions or comments on the book during that time please post them here for discussion purposes.

Anyways, I sparknoted this as I do almost all books. I was actually going to try to read it, but gave up after the first page made no sense. The nadsat slang is pretty much impossible to learn unless you study the dictionary for a while and I'm not in the slight bit motivated to do so.

Oh, btw, the movie is like a porno. lolz.

I just have to say this. The language in this book is at such a high state. You may even not notice how funny the book is at times. The explanation for such a wide variety of language? I think you will find that the characters speak in the made up language of Nadstat.
