Update: The page is now back online. Original Story: The name of the next game in the Assassin's Creed seems to have been leaked by an over-eager Facebook manager. Ubisoft indicated earlier this year that a new, non-3DS game was coming in 2011. Presumably referring to the same game, a message (which has since been removed) was posted on Facebook earlier today reading, "Assassins, the day you have been waiting for has arrived!!! Click the link below to help reveal an exclusive look at the upcoming Assassin's Creed game!"
A NeoGAF thread shows that the link pointed to a page asking for Facebook 'Likes.' Once enough likes have been accumulated, "an exclusive sneak peek at the coming game reveal" would be shared. A flash file from the page remained available on Ubisoft's website for some time before also being removed. The logo you see above for Assassin's Creed: Revelations was discovered as a part of the posting along with a mention of Altair, the protagonist of the original Assassin's Creed. The last two major releases starred Altair's descendant, Ezio Auditore.
The Facebook posting was quickly removed, but the damage has clearly been done. Fans have covered the page with postings about the logo, flash file, and Altair. It now remains to be seen what platforms the new game will be released on. We've seen a major console release for the series in each of the last two years (Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood) in addition to numerous spin-offs since the series debuted in 2007. The only AC game to be announced so far for 2011 is the 3DS-exclusive Lost Legacy.
E3 is a little more than a month away and we'll likely learn much more then. Hopefully Ubisoft decides to give us some additional information in the meantime now that the secret is out. For now, the company is remaining quiet.

As much as I love the series of AC games, would really like to see them work on a true 3rd games for the series, and move away from both Desmond and Altair and move to a new time period, with a new main character introduced.

Update, as game is officially announced:

media

Following a tease on Facebook last week, Assassin's Creed: Revelations has officially been announced as the next game in the series.
Game Informer will have a proper unveiling in its June issue but today's cover reveal provides us with the first concrete details about the game. It had been rumored that Altair, the first game's protagonist, would make a return in Revelations. He will be a playable character, along with Desmond, but wrapping up the story of Ezio will apparently be the main attraction, as the game is described as his "final chapter." Ezio has been the star of the last two major releases in the series.

Ezio will visit the legendary city of Constantinople as he wields a new weapon and tool "that changes the way you'll fight and traverse the world." We'll also learn what happened with Desmond following the conclusion of Brotherhood. Following in that game's footsteps, Revelations game will also feature a multiplayer component that is now customizable, although in just what was wasn't mentioned.
Feel free to speculate on what the new weapon/tool could be -- some sort of grappling hook, perhaps? -- and how the multiplayer can be customized in the comments below.

I'm really thankful they're doing an Ezio trilogy. Ezio is awesome and I'm not yet bored of him, and won't get the chance to be now since this is his final game. After this, I can't wait to see what they have planned for III.

Here's the trailer and Gameplay Demo from E3. Games looks fantastic. New locations and I'm sure they'll be some new gameplay elements also. Looks like you can call and level up your assasians again based on the trailer

Saw this yesterday, couldn't be happier about how it looks. The scene on the burning boats is incredible. I'm anxiously awaiting new info.
