A video package begins playing over an instrumental of
“The Solution” by Abstract Rude. It is a cool day in
Brooklyn, NY with the sun peeking through the clouds.
The first thing seen on screen is a shot of an above
ground subway train speeding by on its track.
Following this is a clip of an urban looking
building with a large sign on the front that reads
“Building Bridges: Community Outreach Organization”.
The next clip is people of all ages happily playing
a game of basketball on an outdoor court.
Standing by a door near the court is a man smiling ear to ear.

“Hello to all the wonderful people of AMA.
You might not know who I am, and that’s ok.
I am not the type of man who likes to brag and seek notoriety.
I leave that for the people who want fame and fortune.
So let me humbly introduce you to who I am.
My name is Marquise Bridges.
I am a man of the people.
A man of the community.
I wish to help the world by giving every last bit of myself.”

Marquise walks onto the court and one of the
children tosses him the basketball. He shoots
the ball and misses as it bounces off of the rim.
The kid retrieves the ball and walks up to Marquise,
jokingly noting that Marquise completely bricked that ball.
With a big laugh, Marquise responds to the kid.

“Haha, yes, I missed. That was horrible.
But, I want you to remember this as a lesson.
Even if you miss, taking a shot is important.
If that shot is on yourself or in basketball practice,
it’s always worth it. You learn, you practice, and you grow.
So that when you try it again, maybe, just maybe…”

Marquise holds his hands out to
signal the kid to pass him the ball, which he does.
Marquise takes a step back, measuring his shot.
He puts his arms above his head, flicks his wrists
and releases the ball. It bounces off the rim, goes up,
and comes back down but this time through the hoop.

“Your next shot, even if it’s shaky, goes in.
No matter what, everything can get better.
Everything can improve. Just believe in yourself,
bet on yourself, and never say you can’t do something.
Whatever the obstacle is, whatever the issue is,
whatever the problem is, you can be the solution.”

The kid daps Marquise, who the pats him on the back,
and sends the kid on his way. Marquise walks
off screen and the scene changes to the inside
of the building. He enters what looks to be a
classroom. A few teenagers are working on numerous
art projects under the supervision of an instructor.
Marquise and the instructor happily shake hands
as Marquise looks over the class and their work.
Two of the teens hold up a large piece of paper
to catch his attention and they exclaim:
“Look, we made this for you!”
The large paper says “THE SOLUTION”
and shows an emoji-like drawing of his face.

“This is good! Thank you both, I love it!
I’ll remember to put this in my office.
Oh yeah, AMA, I forgot to mention that.
You see, the community I serve fondly nicknamed me
“The Solution”, a thing I’ve always told people to be.
I believe that everyone is capable of turning their negative
situations into positives. Everyone is able to fix a problem,
whether personal or something bigger than themselves.
Doing good in this life is far more rewarding than the small moments
of high you get from the less than desirable things in this world.
This is what I try to be an example of. I want my community and the world
to see that we as people are capable of so much more when we put or minds,
our bodies and our souls into something more than just personal gain.
Not to say there is anything wrong with advancing in your own life, but
it must not come at the cost of others and it must not come at the cost
of who you are. Even if nobody believes in you,
then you must believe in you.”

The teens in the room had been sitting respectfully
listening to his every word. Marquise waves goodbye to
the class and walks out of the room as they all
excitedly tell him goodbye as well. The scene changes
to Marquise walking out the front doors of the
building and sitting on the steps. A few groups of people,
some of which are families and others are individuals,
join him on the steps. They all look at the camera together.

“I have been wrestling for a good while now.
It is how I was able to turn my life around, build this center
from the ground up, and in turn help others turn their lives around.
Now, coming to AMA, I will be able to greater support these people.
I will be able to hopefully help others like me, and like them, out there in the world.
Maybe I can touch the heart of someone else who then takes the same path I have now.
I wouldn’t mine perhaps helping the good people that work for AMA as well.
I look forward to not just saying, but showing, that if there’s a problem…
Then be The Solution.”

Marquise Bridges and those around him
all smile and wave at the camera as it pans up
to once again show the large sign on the front
of the building that says:
“Building Bridges: Community Outreach Organization”.
