From MMAMania.com:

Former Pride FC lightweight champion and Japanese fighting deity Takanori Gomi (31-5) could jump right into the UFC 155-pound title hunt when he makes his UFC debut in 2010 -- which ESPNs "MMA Live" tweets could be against perennial contender Kenny "Kenflo" Florian (12-4).

When asked about the rumored mtach-up at the UFC 108 post-fight press conference, company President Dana White was expectedly non-committal in his "Could be" response.

Gomi recently signed a multi-fight deal to compete for the UFC after fighting exclusively for Japanese promotions.

I think KenFlo with me. However, if Gomi wins this fight, he will be next in line to get a shot at BJ Penn. Based on name value, White would put a fight together between champ and Gomi just because he's a bigger name than Maynard and Edgar, even if they might deserve it more.

From MMAJunkie.com:

"It's a fight that I think I've been wanting to do for a long time, ever since Gomi was the best over in PRIDE, so Gomi's obviously a legend in the sport and those are the kind of guys that I want to challenge myself with," Florian said from Los Angeles, where he was working with ESPN on an undisclosed project. "The quickest road back to the title is beating great fighters like Gomi."

"I see (Gomi) as a great opportunity to improve as a mixed martial artist and face one of the best fighters to ever fight as a lightweight," he said. "So for me, I've always had a lot of respect for the Japanese fighters and how they conduct themselves as martial artists, and obviously Gomi has accomplished a lot in the sport. To beat someone like that would be tremendous."
