Ok, It's getting to be that time of my life where I need to start looking for a job. I've had a few in the past, but they have all been during the summer when school was out. Lately, my mom has been bugging me to go out and get one. I'm lost and don't even know where to begin to look for one. I really, REALLY don't want a job where I have to talk to people. (I'm shy and embarrassed to talk to other people....yeah, weird I know). Also no waiter job or anything to do with food. Nah. Does anybody know any good places to go and apply for a job that would pay well and not be too bad?

PS-I'm not looking for joking answers or any funny shit. This is serious. Non of that kind of shit will be dealt with. I need to get one soon and am lost. Rep for any good and serious answers. If you have a job, post it in here as well, but still give me good ideas.

EDIT- Keep in mind I am a junior in High school and am 17 yrs old.

alright...i'm from the UK and i gather things maybe different...i've done a few jobs with varying results. The whole not talking to people thing is going to limit your options...and if you had a job where you had to talk to people it would probably help you out a whole lot....here are things i have experienced....boxing books for amazon...mind numbing boring job..but you don't have to chat to people. Cab controller....amazing job...alot of talking. maybe i shouldn't be giving career advice though...i have an interview to be a postman in 11 hours.

Alright well I'm 18 and have cycled through multiple jobs throughout my life. At 17, in America anyway, it's virtually impossible to get a job at the mall or at a store like Dick's, it's a sports store if you don't happen to have one in your area but I believe they're national. Anyway I've applied at the Mall and at Dick's when I was 16 and 17 and never got the job because I wasn't 18 so I'd say the mall is out.

I don't know how opposed you are to manual labor, but I worked as a land scaper, which wasn't that bad, and I sealed black top driveways, which is absolute hell. The nice part about both of those jobs are that they were under the table pay so I didn't have to pay taxes. Most area landscaper type jobs like that are under the table, so if you can find one of those it'd be beneficial to you if your not opposed to working somewhat hard.

The best advice I could give you is to work at a local grocery store. I worked for Marc's, it's a chain grocery store in Ohio. I worked produce and quite honestly it was probably the easiest job I ever had. It's nice because I was working in food, but I wasn't cooking(I also am very opposed to doing any type of fast food or bus boy type job), so the food you're working with is nice. I worked in the summer and you spend most of your time in the cooler which is nice. You also get to pretty much take any food that you want you just have to say it's damaged. The only thing that sucks was getting carts, which was a bitch when it was like 90 out or raining, but that really isn't that hard and it's only occasionally. Plus a lot of stores will have specific people that do that. I also am like you and don't really like to do deal with people, but to be honest working in a grocery store isn't nearly as personal as you would think. I always had a trick when people asked me where stuff was. I did one of two things, either I just refferred the person to someone else that I figured would know. Or if you have no idea and no one is around you just look like you're thinking really hard and tell them aile 11. The money is only minimum wage usually and you do get taxed, however once your 18 you get that money back which I'm now discovering as I'm about to make like 200 bucks in a month for doing nothing.

So overall I'd say that a grocery store is your best bet. It's not great money, but unless you get screwed or have a horrible boss it's really easy work, and as I said there's ways around dealing with people. So I'd go with something like that, hope that helps.

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of either stocking shelves or pushing carts. I really don't like talking to people, especially people I don't know. Thats why I hate looking for jobs, b/c I know I'm going to prolly have to interview. Right? But yeah, manual labor isn't too bad as long as it inst strenuous work.

ye i had to be interviewed. stocking shelves is one they dont really question you about, because you dont have to know too much to do it

^Yea well the nice thing about landscaping is that your outside which is always good, you usually get a nice tan, lol. Stocking shelves really isn't bad at all. Pushing carts is not fun, I would highly reccomend staying away from doing that full time. I knew a kid that, that was all he did and he wanted to kill himself, especially if it snowed/rained/was really hot.

So going to a local supermarket and asking/applying for a job to stock shelves might suit me well. I'm still open to more ideas. Thanks

My interview for produce was incredibly simple. If you get interviewed for a job like that, you've already pretty much got it so I wouldn't worry about.
