I actually used to practice a brand of shamanism in which there is a concept called shaped shifting. While it's not a literal shift, you basically wear yourself down into a worn mental state and begin to hallucinate yourself shifting into an animal This really isn't the best description for what I mean. It's kinda hard to explain unless you experience it. But using this method I have shape shifted into both a fox and a river otter. They were both really amazing and realistic experiences.
