John Cena has been calling out The Undertaker for a match at WrestleMania 34 these last couple of weeks, with no response from him yet but I have a feeling he won't come back as The American Badass Taker for many reasons. 1.) He was The Deadman at the 25th Anniversary of RAW two months ago. 2.) The Undertaker has been The Deadman a lot longer than The American Badass, a decade with the original version (1990 - 2000) and 14 years under the current gimmick (2004 - now) after 4 years as ABA/Big Evil. 3.) The WrestleMania 34 promotional posters against John Cena have him advertised as The Deadman in his fedora hat and the leather coat with the gloves and the tank top like he always does.

bruh, first of all, fuck american badass Taker, one of the most overrated gimmicks ever. He sucked dick on the mic without his mystical deadman gimmick where he only needed to say 2 sentences real slow and leave again and the look literally screams midlife crisis all over. Now, in this late stage of his career there is really no reason for him to pop out as something completely different just to "wow" people a little. The american badass was nothing but an experiment, after all there's a reason why they went back to his roots in 04. The deadman gimmick is worth a lot more than some old dude on a bike.

Granted, the deadman gimmick isn't was it used to be. Nowadays with the internet and people refusing to get worked, more and more people are starting to see him as Mark, the guy who won't retire. Even Cena kinda disrespected the gimmick by calling him out on Michelle McCool's instagram posts, basically calling out the man behind the gimmick.
But, to sum it up, I don't wanna see badass Taker, the company doesn't wanna see badass Taker and to be honest, I don't even think Taker wants to see himself as badass Taker again

I don’t want to see him come back as Undertaker period. Certainly not as an in ring performer.

I welcome him to come back as a guest announcer, manager/trainer, etc.....anything that can use his popularity to get over new talent. He can be Mark Calloway and people will still pop for him. No more lights out entrance or Undertaker music.

As an in ring performer, no way. He needs to let the dead man retire. He had an awesome retirement. It would be a shame to throw it away. He already missed going out on top by about 10 years (more in reality) it would be pitiful to come back now and start wrestling again.

He has to come back as the american badass, I think that is what's happen. They have to do something fresh with Taker at mania...

This. And storywise, kayfabe wise, it makes the most sense. The deadman died at last years mania via his loss to Roman, which explains why he put his gear to rest. The American badass, just the real mark callaway, is alive and wants one last ride with Cena. Makes sense, if he’s going to return, it makes the most sense.

He's coming back as Deadman. His appearance at RAW 25 points to that.
