Given the storylines, the builds, etc. currently taking place, do you think this PPV will end up fairing well or will it flop?

I have many doubts. I am sure that Saudi Arabia will enjoy it though.

The Prince will be very pleased, especially if more propaganda videos will play.

The fans there that are genuinely wrestling fans will enjoy it.

Any "comps" will pretend to be happy out of fear of their government.

Fans that watch will likely be bored.

The Women's roster at home will feel awkward.

Beavie will be pulling their hair out and not watching.

Well, this is no surprise:

WWE's ongoing deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been a controversial subject ever since it was made in 2018. By the time the second Saudi Arabia event, Crown Jewel, made its way onto WWE's schedule late last year stories began popping up of wrestlers not being comfortable appearing in the country. John Cena and Daniel Bryan both reportedly refused to work that event, leading to WWE having to put out a statement regarding how they plan on handling wrestlers that don't want to be involved. With the next Saudi event Super ShowDown coming up in Jeddah on June 7, reports of wrestlers refusing to make the trip are once again popping up.

Fightful reported on Wednesday that Kevin Owens would not be attending the show. Three more names have since been added to that list, with Dave Meltzer reporting Bryan would not make the trip again this year, while POST Wrestling's John Pollock reported on Wednesday afternoon that Sami Zayn and Aleister Black won't be going either.

A reason was not specifically given for any of the four, though Zayn has not been used on any of the shows reportedly because of his Syrian descent and the contentions relationship between Syria and Saudi Arabia. WWE had to put out a statement regarding that as well.

"WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world," the statement read.

Also due to the country's customs regarding women, none of the women's roster has been able to appear on any of the shows. The Saudi General Sports Authority even had to issue an apology after an ad that played during the Greatest Royal Rumble featured Carmella in her full ring gear.

Four Top WWE Superstars Reportedly Refusing to Work Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia

PR Disaster. WWE makes bank. Evolution II happens. Wrestling fans give this show a middle finger.

Another thing to add, I think there will be a sizable portion of fans not watching. Why?

Well, @Jonny Nostradamus has it, in song form!

The saddest thing is, how much of a PR disaster is it really?
Everyone wanted Crown Jewel cancelled. They ignored it and just stopped saying the name.
They thought they were going to wait for it to blow over. It blew over as soon as the final bell rang.
WWE pocketed enough money to lure HBK out of retirement. At least the talent's profiting?

As for the show, Card looks like ass, but WWE's PPV's have been good this year

Yeah, they are getting paid but at what expense? I mean most hardworking American people will stand on some form of moral ground but this company doesn't really give a lot of them the option to do this. I'm sure they had to pay extra to get some guys to work over there but even then, many of them likely only had the option of going or being fired/punished/etc.

You're not wrong, and it's a sad state of affairs in that regard.
Just sad that morals only mean so much in the world. :/

Goldberg vs Taker is the only thing im really interested in seeing. I just wanna know how they decide to work this match. I think its gonna be a dud becuz Saudi Arabians wont give the type of reaction that American fans would give because thats such a big moment. They wont really understand the significance. I think if Taker vs Goldberg was booked in the U.S. or even the UK, Canada, or Australia, the pop would be massive at the start of the match.

This... But those countries won't pay Vince what Saudi's are paying. So Vince doesn't care...

While I can understand wrestling fans being interested/excited about this
match...I honestly think it would have been better to see 15 years ago.

I'm honestly gravely concerned for Taker & I just hope Bill doesn't break
or dislocate his hip(s).

I’ve never heard anything stating that superstars will be fired for not working the show? Or being punished?

In any case, from a business standpoint, I get why Vince is doing it and I get why stars are performing there: it’s huge money and makes their company grow and they do have a big ass fan base there that they need to show they care about. Unfortunately, that’s how profit businesses work: profits. You can’t always be 100% concerned about what some countries policies are on certain things when you’re there to simply perform and somewhat try to get your fan base happy and keep growing. It’s a hard spot to be in.

I get what you’re saying 100%, but more or less playing devils advocate. The one thing that pisses me the fuck off is that these big stars, retired or not, are coming out of the woodwork to perform at these shows just for the big payouts. I’m not against them trying to get paid, rather they make it seem like they do it for just the love of the sport. Yeah.... okay....

That just shows how "corporate" the WWE is.

They need big names for a "big show" they can
just dangle a huge carrot in front of anyone & a
lot of performers will make a grab for that carrot...
whether they should or shouldn't.

Sorry to keep repeating this...but I think that's what
is so refreshing & exciting about the AEW.

Its actually more about actual wrestling rather than
corporate, money fueled "sports entertainment"

What's refreshing is 3 weeks of enjoying Takeover, Double or Nothing, and Dominion, and leaving this for the Prince.

It's a great time to be a wrestling fan.
