At first when he came out I was pretty sure that this was the start to a fued with him trolling the fans, but as he went on I just had to believe it. The delivery was unreal and the way he used his wife and kids was genius.

I can also see Henry going over Cena at MITB for the belt. He gets his thank you reign and then puts over Bryan at Summerslam.

I wonder if WWE would actually bother to reference to the feud between Henry and Bryan in late 2011/early 2012

I was worked. The tweets, the tears, the mention of the people behind the scenes and his respect for the business... Even though it was against my better judgement he had me fooled.

WWE needs to give that man the belt

In the back of my mind when he mentioned Cena a couple of times it popped up, but him name-dropping his wife and whatnot went back to selling me.
Segment of the year.

Last night on Raw Mark Henry had everyone fooled. He made his retirement very believable. I cried.
Then he WSS'd Cena and at that point I was hoping he would retire, but backstage he made it clear that he wasnt. I think Mark Henry has a few good years left. Your opinions?

Just hilarious seeing someone talk about how 'obvious' it was when he knew the results while watching the damn segment lmao.

I was a bit torn, but still marked and was very excited when he unleashed the WSS. Seeing Cena just lying there while Henry was in beast mode just made me happy. :yay: I didn't hear the part where Henry told Cena to stay. At first I kept telling myself he wasn't really retiring, that they had beefed it up and talked about it on Twitter and everything else just to swerve the fans, etc., etc. Even when he was first getting a bit emotional I was thinking it was a work. But then as it kept going on, and he seemed more emotional and mentioned his family and little girl and everything else, and his tears were flowing more -- seeming so heartfelt and genuine -- I did start thinking, "Holy shit, he's really retiring. I can't believe it's happening." I didn't shed any tears, but I did find myself buying into it more as it went on. Very well done by Henry.

Yeah I got worked. My instincts were telling me this was fake since Henry interrupted Cena to do it and Cena stayed by the ring while this was going on, but then this whole speech was very long, delivered well, and Henry even cried. When he started tearing up I was like, oh shit it's real, but then SWERVE :russo: and I'm so glad it was one. I think that segment alone sold that main event.

Saw this response coming. What can I say? It was the only segment I've seen since before WrestleMania really, I loved the segment and wanted to participate in the discussion but no way I'm going to lie. Still, even though I was spoiled on it, it doesn't mean the set-up wasn't obvious as hell, as other members on here can clearly attest to (Perfect & Lockard, for example). For example, I didn't need to check the results of WrestleMania XXIX to know that Cena was beating Rock, the writing was on the wall from the build, it's the same thing here. I have zero doubt that I would've known this was work if I wasn't spoiled because of the set-up for the promo, regardless of how awesome Henry's performance was (and it was incredible [this is coming from someone who doesn't even really care for the dude]). While I'm at it, not everything in my last post was directed at how obvious it was. The little "earned" thing I pointed out was just my way of praising the promo for being clever enough to involve some subtle foreshadowing/ironic echo.
