Just curious. I've had it for maybe over two months now. One of the best inventions ever even though it killed retail rentals. But fuck, they seriously need to stay on pace with adding more streaming movies. I understand new releases and re-releases holding back some movies but for example where the fuck is Jason X? You have the entire Friday The 13th series but somehow they don't have Jason X. Basically any movie that isn't newly released or is making sales through being re-released should be on Netflix now. Supposedly they are trying to get everything on streaming now though with them even having a streaming only deal now.

It's really a wonderful service, you should check it out. I also get games, music, even books all for no extra cost beyond my nominal monthly internet fee. Isn't technology fucking grand?

I have the internet. I get movies for free without paying somebody like netflix or blockbuster.

It's $10 a month for netflix and it has a huge database of movies to stream and you can have one DVD out at a time meaning if you have the plan where you stream and have one out at a time(you can have more but the price goes up) you have unlimited access to movies and shows and everything. On the internet you have to find what you want. Netflix is convenient and organized unlike searching through the internet for what you want to watch. Plus it doesn't eat up your hard drive space. Movies take up a lot of space on your HD so having a service where the only space it takes up is for the application is very nice.

Games? lol I have a PS3 why would I downgrade myself to PC gaming and pay a fortune for a powerful PC to run them? Also, PS3 exclusives are really the best quality of games and you have all the multi-platform games which are now equal versus the 360 version. I do agree with you on music. Frostwire is a wonderful thing. If you want books get a Kindle or Sony Reader or whatever screw the hassle of trying to find everything online and reading on one of those devices is just more comfortable. Kind of awkward reading books on your PC or laptop which is a bit better but still.

I can find more or less any movie I want online (or anything else for that matter) within a few minutes. 15-20 minutes to download and then I own it. Also, as an aside, a 1tb external hard drive costs around $100 now. That's far more than you'll ever need for movies (800+ movies) and as a one time cost, is cheaper than paying for netflix for a year. Did I mention that you own the movie now and didn't rent it?

This argument is stupid. I paid around $1000 for my computer it's not top of the line but it plays games just fine. That $1000 is probably at the very least the same amount you'll pay for your system plus all the games you'll buy over the years, likely more though.

Also, PS3 exclusives are really the best quality of games and you have all the multi-platform games which are now equal versus the 360 version.

That's subjective and not even worth debating.

My laptop isn't bad for reading things actually. Hate the desktop though for that.

While on netflix you just search for what you want provided it's on streaming(if its not you can rent it on DVD through mail for as long as you want). On Netflix it quickly loads the movie and it streams, no waiting 10-30 mins for a movie to download. Easy access and organized. 1TB for $100? Now I know HD prices have gone down and down but unless you're using ebay and craigslist there is no fucking way you're getting 1TB for $100. You cant rent out movies for as long as you want and all the movies on streaming(which is a huge database) you can watch at anytime you want with more movies being added to Netflix every week.

So not only do you have to go through the hassle of finding what you want(maybe you want to watch a season of a show or something not just movies and you need to look elsewhere to find it, again the annoying hassle), you have to wait for all your downloads and you need to have a massive hard drive to contain all your content. If you have a huge HD that's good for you but many people don't have that and are limited in hard drive space which makes Netflix very appealing. Not to mention it's best asset is being convenient(Netflix is on pretty much every device now whether it be a PS3, 360, Wii, IPod, PC/Laptop, etc it's everywhere extremely convenient which is it's best asset easily). I'll take watching a movie on TV over watching it on my laptop any day because it's just superior(now my laptop has nice quality but why the fuck would I watch a movie on my laptop when I watch can watch it on TV and not have to sit right in front of the movie to see it?)

Then we have the fact that it has a huge database of movies to stream and for all others you can rent out for as long as you want and if you want more out at a time you can pay more but considering how huge of a database is on streaming it's not bad that you can only have one out a time for the standard price, whenever you want to watch a movie or show that isn't available on streaming just rent it. It will be delivered quickly in a day or so which in the mean time you watch shit on streaming and then before you know it you have it in the mail. Watch it and then return it so then you can get another movie out right away if you want.

Instead of paying a fortune for a top of line graphics card I can pay $300-500 for a nice TV that plays games with even better graphics with Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, GOWIII, the upcoming games like Gears of War 3, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, etc. These games look better than any PC game I've seen. Maybe Crysis 2 will look better though that's on consoles this time and you have to pay a fortune to run it on the PC. Not to mention that the PS3 has a much more vast library of games as it's a gaming console and it has great features like Blu-Ray(Yes you can get PC's and laptop's that play Blu Ray if you want to spend more and why would you do that when you can't watch movies on a HD TV?) which is the purpose of Blu-Ray maybe you can hook it up to your TV but why the fuck would you do that? Not only is that annoying as hell but you can just get a PS3 and watch movies right off your HD TV.

That's subjective and not even worth debating.
Metacritic is a wonderful thing and with the lineup of exclusives for 2011 you can debate that it's not true now but when 2011 comes there will be no arguing with the seriously ridiculous amount of exclusives games Sony is releasing. In fact it's probably too many fucking exclusives in 2011 for the PS3.

My laptop isn't bad for reading things actually. Hate the desktop though for that.
Mine isn't either but reading it off a Kindle or Sony Reader is more comfortable but I'm not debating this just saying it's more comfortable to read off one of those devices.

1TB for $100? Now I now HD prices have gone down and down but unless you're using ebay and craigslist there is no fucking way you're getting 1TB for $100.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148413

2tb $89.99 if you're not feeling lazy

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136505

1.5tb $99.99 external if you are.

You cant rent out movies for as long as you want and all the movies on streaming(which is a huge database) you can watch at anytime you want with more movies being added to Netflix every week.

But still, my main sticking point is that you don't physically own anything you pay for.

So not only do you have to go through the hassle of finding what you want(maybe you want to watch a season of a show or something not just movies and you need to look elsewhere to find it, again the annoying hassle), you have to wait for all your downloads and you need to have a massive hard drive to contain all your content.

But there is no hassle for full seasons. Those are usually the easiest to find. And yeah you need the hard drive, but up there. 2tb for under $100, that is once again a one time expenditure while you will pay $120 a year for every year you want access to netflix.

I'm sure it's very user friendly, which is appealing. My way is maybe not as user friendly but it is far more free.

I'll take watching a movie on TV over watching it on my laptop any day because it's just superior(now my laptop has nice quality but why the fuck would I watch a movie on my laptop when I watch can watch it on TV and not have to sit right in front of the movie to see it?

Who says I watch anything on my laptop? My tower is hooked directly up to my tv. All I have to do to watch something is plug in my external and pick what I want to watch.

But you're still paying for something you easily don't have to pay for. That's what I don't get. I understand the convenience factor and whatnot and (especially if you don't own a PC) but barring not owning a PC, even that's negligible when you add everything up in the end. Are we really so lazy that we can't be bothered to take 5 minutes to find something for free? And I can have more than one movie out at a time.

Instead of paying a fortune for a top of line graphics card I can pay $300-500 for a nice TV that plays games with even better graphics with Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, GOWIII, the upcoming games like Gears of War 3, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, etc.

Yeah but like I said the price argument is dumb. I pay around $1000 for my tower including that graphics card and never pay for a single game. Total expense around $1000. You bought a system. A second controller most likely if not more than one. You will buy games in quantities likely reaching over $1000 just by themselves, and just like me in a few years you'll need a new system. But the difference is, I'll pay my one time cost (maybe a new graphics card a little later on if a really hot game hits and I want the best to play it) and I'll play all the free games I want.

These games look better than any PC game I've seen.

I don't care about that, I'm not a graphics nerd. Truth be told, the biggest thing that puts PC over console for me is very simple. I like my mouse. I find it 1000x easier to play just about any game involving aiming of any kind with a mouse.

Maybe Crysis 2 will look better though that's on consoles this time and you have to pay a fortune to run it on the PC.

Only if you're a graphics nerd and demand that you run it at the highest settings.

Not to mention that the PS3 has a much more vast library of games as it's a gaming console

That depends on how you want to look at things. As a PC I have access to the NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, PSX, and Dreamcast libraries and more I'm sure, plus a huge catalogue of PC games past and present.

and it has great features like Blu-Ray(Yes you can get PC's and laptop's that play Blu Ray if you want to spend more and why would you do that when you can't watch movies on a HD TV?)

Because some of us hook ours directly up to our televisions so we can have 52" monitors.

which is the purpose of Blu-Ray maybe you can hook it up to your TV but why the fuck would you do that? Not only is that annoying as hell but you can just get a PS3 and watch movies right off your HD TV.

Minimization. Everything media related I need is all in one place with very simple access. Nor is it annoying. It took one cable and all I have to do to get to my PC is hit the input button twice on my remote.

This means nothing to me at all. The only game I care about in 2011 is Diablo 3. Everything else can suck a dick.

Gears of War 3, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, etc. These games look better than any PC game I've seen.

Gears 3 is not coming out on the PS3 and in all honesty, Nintendo's exclusive 1st party games KILL Sony and Microsoft's efforts. Even on the Wii. SMG 2: 'nuff said.

All that aside, this has been one of the best debates on this site in a lonnnnggggg time. Better than "the Miz suckkkkssss cuz I say so" shit that passes for debate around here.

But I own mine. You don't. And it's no hassle usually to find what I want.

Again, you can watch movies anytime you want so as long as you're subscribed to netflix and the movie is streaming you own it. Movies that aren't streaming you can rent at anytime for as long as your heart desires.

I see but it's an online retailer with some shady products. Regular retail stores like Best Buy or Target would charge a fortune for that.

But still, my main sticking point is that you don't physically own anything you pay for.

You don't physically own anything on a PC/laptop unless you burn it to a disc but that's not a retail copy.

But there is no hassle for full seasons. Those are usually the easiest to find. And yeah you need the hard drive, but up there. 2tb for under $100, that is once again a one time expenditure while you will pay $120 a year for every year you want access to netflix.

No hassle? For most sites you have to download a shit load of parts for seasons and then merge them unless you want to view it online but then of course you have the hassle of finding the episodes and there will be shows you want to watch that aren't there and you need to find elsewhere. In most cases anyways due to strict networks, it almost always happens. Is that a good deal? Fuck yes it is but again Netflix is very appealing because most people don't have access to huge hard drives and well actually most people probably don't know how much a TB is.

I'm sure it's very user friendly, which is appealing. My way is maybe not as user friendly but it is far more free.

Netflix is $10 for the standard unlimited streaming and one DVD out at a time with a huge database to stream and growing and all others available on DVD, don't be so God damn poor. User friendly is nice. Being convenient and organized is great.

Who says I watch anything on my laptop? My tower is hooked directly up to my tv. All I have to do to watch something is plug in my external and pick what I want to watch.

Well this whole debate is about how Netflix is appealing to everyone and sadly most people don't know how to hook it up or that you even can to be honest. On Netflix all you have to do it boot up the application on whatever you choose to watch on. A bit more convenient then your option.

Almost everyone on Netflix uses streaming which has a huge database of movies and shows. This is unlimited. You can watch how many movies and shows you want a day, week, month, year. Are we really so lazy that we can't obtain the money to pay for things and not be a greedy fucking pirate? Okay half joking considering I pirate music but I don't pirate anything else and I'm an anti-games pirate. Support the developers who make the games you like! Especially for the PC considering how bad piracy which is why they get half assed support and many of the HD multi-platform console games aren't the PC period due to piracy but that's another debate. Netflix is almost every single electronic device now so it has a massive amount of convenience. Have a 360 but it got the RROD of death? Watch movies on your laptop. Plan on going to spend the weekend with your brother? Watch whatever you want through Netflix on his PS3. Going out on a long bus ride or car ride and you don't want to carry around your laptop? Go lighter with your IPod Touch and watch whatever you want right on Netflix! of course provides it's on streaming which in most cases it is and really the streaming database is huge so who really cares. It sucks that some movies aren't available on streaming but watch a different movie out of the millions on streaming.

I already went over my opinion on this subject so I won't add too much besides the fact that PC gaming sucks(I prefer to play with a controller thank you and yes you can use a controller if you program it but that's strange you use controllers for consoles), you get shit for support, games aren't meant to be played on consoles/handhelds and using the internet is meant to be done through your PC/laptop(not on console/handheld devices) you don't have the features from consoles, you can't play the console and HD multi-platform exclusives.

I don't care about that, I'm not a graphics nerd. Truth be told, the biggest thing that puts PC over console for me is very simple. I like my mouse. I find it 1000x easier to play just about any game involving aiming of any kind with a mouse.

I guess this is just were we disagree. I find aiming/moving/anything involving a video game to be much easier with a controller and again like I mentioned before using the internet should be done on a computer and playing games on a console. Most PC gamers are graphics nerds which is funny considering GOWIII which runs in 720p looks better then any PC game running at max settings.

Only if you're a graphics nerd and demand that you run it at the highest settings.

I am not a graphics nerd. I still play PS1 games.

That depends on how you want to look at things. As a PC I have access to the NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, PSX, and Dreamcast libraries and more I'm sure, plus a huge catalogue of PC games past and present.

If you have a Wii you have access to many of the Nintento platform games, if you have a PS2, PSP or PS3 you have access to every PS1 game, Genesis games are on the virtual console for the Wii, dreamcast games becoming available on Live/PSN, the non DSI handhelds play all GBA games. Many people have access to all of these things, some have access to all. I will admit the emulators are pretty sweet but if you have any of these console/handhelds you have access to it's respective backwards compatible games.

Because some of us hook ours directly up to our televisions so we can have 52" monitors.

Well computers that have Blu-Ray are usually pretty expensive and having say a PS3 is much more convenient and cost efficient but I see your point.

Minimization. Everything media related I need is all in one place with very simple access. Nor is it annoying. It took one cable and all I have to do to get to my PC is hit the input button twice on my remote.
Well if you have Netflix you have everything on your PS3 as well and everything on the 360 minus Blu-Ray obviously. Extremely easy access all I have to do is boot up Netflix or download and watch whatever off PSN or watch whatever on DVD/Blu-Ray.

This means nothing to me at all. The only game I care about in 2011 is Diablo 3. Everything else can suck a dick.

Uncharted 3/Killzone 3/Resistance 3/Infamous 2/Gears of War 3>Diablo 3 Of course this is all opinion but my point was the PS3 does depending on your opinion and will no matter what your view is, have the best quality of games after 2011.

For the record, Monk is right when he's saying it's a personal opinion and not a fact.
Half of the games I play, like real time strategy ones, or managerial ones, can't be played on any console.
You like PS3? Great, enjoy it. No problem. That doesn't make it better than PC in terms of games, actually any comparison makes little sense, they are 2 different things.
And Gears of War isn't even for the PS3.

I never said it was for the PS3. I was just naming console games in 2011.
