"Forever" - As others have already questioned.... What does that mean exactly? I don't think there's a single person that can predict how long the human race has left.... Let's face it, the US could attack and begin to decimate the rest of the world tomorrow if they wanted to... All it needs is a relatively successful counter attack and it's pretty much lights out for us; 'the virus with shoes'....

As for how long pro-wrestling will last.... Boxing has nowhere near as much interest as it once did and I think MMA will go the same way eventually... Wrestling doesn't provide ENTERTAINMENT in the same way as a legit sport, so I don't see MMA eventually over-running the Wrestling industry.... (I don't really buy into the idea that the average wrestling fan demographic watch it for violence specifically. In fact I think that's merely the generation of fans that broke their wrestling cherry during ECW/Attitude era.)

Responding to the comments in Mike's original post such as it's done everything it can do already and has nowhere conceivable left to go (and similar)....

Peeps have been saying the same thing about, and predicting the death of, Rock (And Roll) music ever since it's inception.... Anyone truly believe the death of Rock music is imminently on the horizon?

To be honest what football (soccere) is to Britain, wrestling is to America. Wrestling has survived through everything before so realy why shouldn't it go 0n forever? Long as there is people like us on the internet trying to get out friends into it, it will go forever.

No way does the level of soccer compared to the level of wrestling. Soccer in Britain would compare more to Baseball or Basketball in America.

^^^Sorry, just looking for clarity, but....

Are you saying, having considered population size, that pro-wrestling in the US is a bigger deal than Soccer is to the UK.

I really can't see that....

(Leaving behind the idea of sports as opposed to sports entertainment for a mo')

As for international sporting events... The soccer world cup could only possibly be deemed second in terms of stature to the Olympics (which is a culmination of many individual sporting events so arguably doesn't count in this context.).

284 million people watched the world cup final in 2006....

IMO, it will depend on the technology and mind-set in the future.
People like 15 years ago loved the wrestling industry in a different fashion that today. Why people come to wrestling ring? its because they want to spare their time and to entertain themselves. So what if there will be other ways to spare time with? That would be the crisis of anything a stadium or arena would benefit and thus everything will be watched at home instead.
Maybe people will be interested in robot fights instead of humans in the future, who knows.
Its really depending on what mindset and future technology will provide.

Not even close. Wrestling in America is nothing on the large scale of things. There's fans, sure, but it's not a huge deal in USA or Canada. Soccer in Britain is massive, and the main sport, so it's comparable to what Football (american) is in the States, or hockey is in Canada. Wrestling doesn't even have close to the same popularity that soccer in britain or football in America has.

Wrestling will always be around no matter what. As long as the money is there that is.

^but still, maybe in the future; people will lose interest in wrestling and tickets selling rate and income may decrease dramatically that would lead to a shutdown of business.

It'll never 'die' so to speak, but eventually MMA will hit it huge and wrestling will once again become the past time of carny folk and backyard maniacs.

In a way, this isn't really a debate on the business but the future of humanity. You can't decipher what will be here in 100 years, you can only really predict where the business will be short-term.
