Never mind acts like Edge offering to put his title on the line knowing he had Vickie there to null the challenge...

...but is it just me, or are these "honest heels" the most intriguing characters in the WWE?

Chris Jericho pointing out some of these hypocrisies and telling of how Shawn Micheals feigned a knee injury and all that.

Randy Orton using a "known" illness to support his mind-state and countless devastating attacks.

Edge telling everyone he had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the Jeff Hardy attacks and it running on to prove true.

Do these characters establish themselves better, or is the persona more believable than a selfish, egotistical, maniacal heel? Do you like these character-types?

Awesome thread my friend. I think in what you said i do think that what they did in your examples was tell the truth but the fans don't fall for it any more. Cause they know what they are like. If wwe can continue to process heels like this in the future then i think it will be a battle of the faces (kids) vs the the heels (adults). But its a very good thing man, i love the new era of the heels.

I think all heels are "honest" in a way. It's their job to point out the flaws of characters that are otherwise deemed as flawless and loveable.
I think Jericho by far does the best job of this out of anyone...obviously...it's what his whole gimmick is based around right now.
But I agree, we're definately in a new era of heels which are more down to earth and seem to represent more general negative aspects of human nature.

Finally, someone who gets it.

I've loved Edge's manipulator and opportunist type heel forever, I just hate the way the WWE books him. He's a go to guy when it's time to have a great match, but he is too often booked way too weak for a man that has had 7 title reigns. It devalues the title and the worker to have so many brief reins, especially for a top heel.

Jericho has been fudgin awesome since the heel turn. Just awesome.
I don't really care for Randy, glad they kind of toned down the disease angle.

Edge is one of the best heels in the business cause hes a legit asshole.. lol.. HE SCREWED LITA BEHIND MATTS BACK... Everyone remembers that.. So he gets legit heel heat..

Randy Orton is so calculated and cool when he speaks and is just so amazing at playing that psycho on the edge heel role... But the problem with that is people are starting to like him too much... Him and Cena get about the same reaction :/

Chris Jericho has entered a whole nother stratosphere with his promos lately and is doing an amazing job... If you need proof look at the video of him attacking the fan after she smacked him...

Its on my shows youtube channel :D

In a time when WWE is doing every thing wrong.
Heels are a thing that they some times do well.

Some times when watching guys like Ted Debias it feels a lil false. Hes trying so hard to piss the crowd off that it just seems rediculas. It allways seemed comical.
With NWO and Steve Austin they were more realistic. But then they were turned into good guys.

Wrestlers like Edge and randy Orton have it just right!
Some times the over the top egomaniacs can work. Like Y2J in the late 90s.
Or Kurt Angle.
But guys like Sjt Sluater were over the top.

Owen Hart.
Ric Flair
are two ultra bad guys who allways worked.

Don't know how I missed thsi thread, but yes. These heels, like a Jericho type, and Orton, do intrigue me more. It's almost like they have qualities that a face would usually have (being honest, trying to tell the truth, etc) but use it in a heel ways, to turn the fans on them, and it is pretty interesting. It's nice to see a different type of heel, rather than the same old cocky heel.
