I think borders are a manner of preference but I do agree about the focal point. I'll upload a better one in a bit.

Yeah that border has to go, never use a white border. Makes everything looks worse than it should.

Depends on how the border blends with the rest of the pic. In this case, in particular, the border doesn't bother me at all. I think it breaks the picture out of the background well.
