It's the ghetto version of Gangman Style. :pity1:

Except the fact that unlike with gangnam-style, the actual author of this song will likely see zero of the profit apart from the people who buy the song. He seems cool with it, but it's only been a thing for a week and hopefully that's how long it'll last.

Once things get to the point where people only watch them because they feel socially inclined to watch them, the thing becomes a band-waggoning shitstorm.

Couldn't one make an argument of this being just what a meme is? Someone makes something that is a bit funny and then the internet (being the bunch of cultural barbarians mainstream media thinks we are) takes it to the limit, pushes it over the limit and stones it to death.

Apparently the author put a content restriction or something on. Basically, he gets ad money from the videos now apparently. So that's quite a lot of income.

Good, at least somebody's life will benefit.

I don't mind things becoming mainstream, I feel if you had the chance to enjoy it for even an inkling of a moment, then you have benefited and any other publicity to the video (or meme) won't take any effect on you. People are free to find anything funny if they find it funny and entertaining because it is funny and entertaining, but forcing yourself to enjoy something because you may feel socially left-out is a sad state to be in*, but each to their own.

* This doesn't mean you cannot like something because your social peers are liking it, it just means you shouldn't really force yourself to like it even if you don't.

I also feel that hating on something just because it is popular is just as bad (if not worse) than liking something for the same reason; choosing to dislike something based on the opinion of others defines a level of hipsterism and lack of self-thought that is beyond unenviable.

CONGRATULATION WWE.

You are now officially Try-hards.

I don't see how. The video probably took a maximum of like 30 minutes to make and 5 minutes to edit. It's inevitably going to get quite a lot of views and publicity, and it's something for their millions of fans to enjoy.

They see something that's viral, so they just join in, so the "fans" like it.

They would do anything to get people to like (and buy) stuff.

By this logic every single Harlem Shake video is created by try-hards. Is it hard to believe that someone at the back thought this was a good idea to create one themselves because of how easy it was to create and the amount of publicity it would inevitably get? I doubt this was a case of WWE producers gathering together to work on this big project; it just seems like a bit of fun to me.

Are TNA now try-hards as well by the way? They made their own version which too looked like fun.

If we're going by trend. Vince should do the Cinnamon Challenge. Insta 10 million hits. :dawg:

That trend seems to be over though. :pity1:
