GTA V release date tipped for October by developer

Grand Theft Auto V could be gracing our consoles as soon as October this year, if a leaked Rockstar employee's CV is to be believed.

Alex O'Dwyer, a character animator at Edinburgh-based Rockstar North, seems to have inadvertently breached the wall of secrecy surrounding GTA V with a CV that places the game's release date in October 2012. Rockstar is, of course, keeping schtum, holding to the line that the GTA V release date will be announced "in a couple of months."

O'Dwyer yanked his CV from the internet after the cat was let out of the bag by gaming site Joystiq. An October release date would put Grand Theft Auto V up against Bioshock Infinite – a release from GTA's parent company Take-Two Interactive – and possibly Assassin's Creed III.

It would be unusual for Rockstar to release two big titles in one year – Max Payne 3 is due in May – but it would settle the question of whether Rockstar is waiting to release GTA V for next-gen consoles with a resounding "no."

Interestingly, O'Dwyer's CV lists GTA V as being available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC – which could point to a same-day release date for the PC version of the game – a first for the Grand Theft Auto series.

If this is true. YES! YES! YES! YES! IM EXCITED.

Will def find out if this is true at E3, if it's coming out in October there will be a full announcement there along with a playable demo.

Yeah I can't wait for E3 to see how much is revealed. Always a great event. I'm really excited for this and I'm pretty sure it's similar to San Andreas with the scenery right? SA was my fav out of the series. I hope it's released in October and I'm sure it will be great with some old stuff returning.

I'd like to experience E3 one day. You ever been, Ben?

Interesting, seeing as it was a similar incident regarding a Rockstar applicant's CV a couple of years ago that leaked GTA V in the first place.

Yeah, I have strong belief in this also with everything leaking lately and that other guy who supposedly leaked a lot of info (none of it is true yet but it seems very believable) and said the game is just about complete. And also releasing it before Christmas season is a brilliant idea so it may be true. I can't wait.

If it isn't October, I don't think I can wait til April/May 2013.

I just hope that this game doesn't wind up being delayed 6 months like GTA IV. Rockstar always likes to do it big though.

October is okay, but Rockstar typically avoid the Christmas rush (I'm struggling to think of a single game Rockstar brought out in the 4th quarter). That's what I find so unusual and I don't know why they'd take that risk on one of their most anticipated releases of all time.

So I'll wait until this stuff is confirmed.

EDIT - Actually I think the last time Rockstar released a game for Christmas was San Andre... Oh Rockstar, you coy little strumpet.

lol Defiant. I think you found it. And since GTA V is basically similar to San Andreas, I'm thinking this release date is true. I just hope they don't push it back now.

Can't wait for the game. It's been far too long since the last GTA game. The only thing I'm bummed about is that they are doing Los Angeles again and I really had enough of that on San Andreas. I wish they would have done a new city like Chicago or DC.

I'm sure I won't care after playing the game a couple hours though.
