BREAKING: Georges St-Pierre has announced he is stepping away from competition for the near future and relinquishing the welterweight title.

"Every fight I am carrying weight on my shoulders. And every fight adds weight. I'm still physically able but mentally I don't want to go through another training camp and don't know when I will be. I need to take a break and have a normal life for a little bit. When I'm ready, I will be back as a challenger." -GSP
May aswell just do Hendricks/Lawler for the title now I reckon. Let Condit fight Brown in a rescheduled fight then build it from there.

Scratch that, Lawler/Hendricks is official for UFC 171 as the co-main on March 15th.

Well while it is shocking... well... it was almost like what else is there for him to do. Then adding all the controversy with people thinking and saying that he should have lost. Plus he has been taking a lot more damage in his fights lately whereas before he'd looked almost virtually unscathed after a 5 round battle.

But yeah... maybe whenever he returns he'll have a fresh feel to it and some aggression to finish a fight.

But Hendricks vs. Lawler... YES!

If he doesn't want to fight, he can do whatever he wants. He didn't even owe an explanation. After Dana Whites' meltdown and him burying GSP after the Hendricks fight, I hope he never comes back to UFC. Sign with anyone else when he wants to continue, he is the biggest draw in MMA, any place would give him the keys to the castle for one fight. UFC can eat a dick for their utter lack of respect for a guy who made them billions of dollars. Doubt Dana White would've buried Chuck Liddell like that.

And suddenly WW is an exciting division again. Just a shame Nevada fucked up the passing of the torch moment.

Are people still crying about that? I'd feel bad for Hendricks if he did win that fight, and if he didn't say stupid shit after it. "I was only using half my power to prove to people I can go 5 rounds" lol idiot.

Anyone remember after the first GSP/BJ Penn fight where Dana White was all about GSPs takedowns and jabs, and said the damage to his face was cosmetic and GSP scored more points, play the game, blah blah blah....

I bet everyone thought Rocky won the first fight against Apollo Creed too.

Yeah be because I clearly said GSP lost because he was so bloodied up...

GSP bruises and cuts easy as you can, but Hendricks mostly outwrestled, dominated a couple of rounds, landed all the bigger punches. He out GSP'd GSP by and doing everything better. And its not like this is some wild situation, Nevada is where combat sports go to die, they've fucked up so many fights in boxing and MMA its ridiculous.

Blame the scoring system, not the athletic commission......Maybe take the 10 point must system out of MMA and draw actual fucking guidelines in what constitutes a point. Not leaving this shit up to judges interpretations...Maybe, now just maybe....Dana White should stop bitching about it and fix it.

Nevada make a mockery out of boxing as well, the Governor had to step in after Floyds last fire and fire one of the judges. Both is to blame here in this instance. The scoring system doesnt work for MMA, judges are Blue especially in Nevada and basically refuse to score anything other than a 10-9.

If Nevada is so damn bad, why continue to promote fights there? Maybe certain promoters shouldn't just bitch about stuff and actually leave that state off their schedule.

This reminds me when everyone just blamed Cecil Peoples for every supposed bad decision a few years ago.

It's just so easy to pass the buck.

Well Vegas has long been the fight capitol of America, alot of major fights were/are held there. They always do great numbers at the gate. But who knows with all the issues they have their thesedays promoters may begin to avoid Vegas.

It's not recent that Vegas had shitty judging, the term fixed has been plaguing boxing since the days of Jack Johnson. It's not Nevada, it's the whole aspect of combat sports, people just don't want to believe that one guy lost and will look for every possible excuse. Hendricks lost the fight, it was a close fight, hell I scored it a draw when I watched it live. It doesn't mean we experienced a major robbery, this wasn't obvious like Diego Sanchez/Martin Kampmann, or Korean Zombie/Leonard Garcia.

GSP proved he didn't have a glass jaw as predicted and Hendricks should've tried more than play counter game.
