Group tagging

I see its been suggested waaaaaaaaaaay back but thought I'll re suggest it.

If we had general groups like for example @Gamers it would be a good way to alert people of sales or somethings like that? A forum I am part of does PC/ Xbox / PS gamers with different tags so that the deals and stuff relating to that can be relayed to the members.

Works for same things like @Indiefans or @Impactfans or @NJPWfans / @AJPWFans or hell, even the super rare @WWEFans

Basically when tagged with that, people who opt into that group gets an alert on the post.

Is that doable? or Practical?

So instead of tagging individuals, you tag @Group and it collectively contacts all people in said group.
I am pretty sure Solidus was going to set this up... But I don't know if it wasn't an option at the time of if he was just waiting for the update (Xenforo).

So it's probably not so hard to add other groups.

It's already possible, although we don't have any other groups except Legends and Registered.
Probably would have to create a lot of groups and have a front-end which allows members to put themselves in it. More groups is a nightmare because of permissions.
The current feature we have probably disappears with our next major forum upgrade as well.
I'm looking at a groups addon for this next version, maybe something like this is included.

The idea is great but there isn't much of a point of trying anything now with the forum update being in the near future like Solidus said.
I think it would be handy for things like RWK, gaming groups on the forum, maybe sports and events but we will has to wait :kitler:

I can do this no problem, but it probably won't work once the forum software is upgraded.

Yeah, could work, put Geek, myself, and Reag in one and we can get someone to rest it out.
