Grizzled Young Vets discuss AEW appearance

The Grizzled Young Veterans discussed their AEW debut during a recent podcast appearance.

James Drake and Zack Gibson lost to The Acclaimed on the April 27 edition of AEW Collision. During a recent appearance on the Cultaholic podcast, Drake said that they appreciate how AEW "celebrates wrestling" and provides opportunities for good wrestlers.

Drake said:

We had a great time (in AEW), great conversation with Tony. The one thing that I love about that place is it celebrates wrestling. So, first and foremost, it celebrates wrestling. If you can go, you will get your roses.
That’s literally something that me and Zack have really prided ourselves on for a very long time. I am 5’10 on a good day. I could probably get wider but I’m not going to get taller and I really hate how for a very long time in wrestling, something as silly as your height can dictate your future. It’s very silly when you can think about the bigger picture.

Gibson added that when the Grizzled Young Veterans left WWE last October, they said they wanted to work with the best talent out there and they couldn't do that without working in AEW.

Gibson said:

When we came out, we said we wanted to be everywhere, we wanted to work with all the best talents that are out there and you can't go on record as saying that and then not end up, at least, trying to do work with the AEW tag division because that division is stacked.
There's rumors of other people coming in but regardless of looking at who potentially could be in, just look at the actual active division right now with, like, Acclaimed, FTR, Young Bucks, the list just goes on and on and it's just top-tier tag team wrestling who are given time to shine and actually show out and do proper tag team wrestling on TV with some real purpose. So, it's such an exciting place to get a foot in the door.
We were both buzzing to be there, the Acclaimed are great opponents for us, the crowd was hot on the night, the crowd was hot on the internet kind of reacting to everything. So, everything's coming up Milhouse.

Their run in WWE was hurt so much with the 2.0 change and the decision to put them in Schism and change their names/Gimmicks.

Joe Gacy is a good competitor, talented guy who's grown on me after his "Right Wing billionaire's take on WOKE culture" gimmick left a bad initial taste in my mouth. Schism could have worked (apart from the fact it did bring him closer to the Bray Wyatt comparisons) but GYV were not the people to be his lackies/followers. They are similar to FTR in that they don't really need some over the top gimmick. They're two bruising tough British lads who will break your jaw if you don't Grit your Teeth. Let them cut an intense promo, either be no nonsense Faces ready to rough up some no good punks, or, ideally, intense, loud heels who are the equivalent of the tough lads in school who would beat you down, take your lunch money, then give you a black eye just for sitting on the wrong bench. But I'm glad they're spreading their wings in AEW and hopefully beyond.

So happy to see these two succeeding and doing what they want to do. Watching them live at Progress and hearing them address the fans showed how much it meant to do this as well
