VS.

Rome

Alright history fans. Let's talk about the big time beat down challenge of all time. Which is more interesting to learn or talk about: Ancient Greece or Rome? We're going to limit the scope of discussion and take Ancient Greece's timeline from the Mycenaean Period to the Hellenistic Period (1600 BCE - 142 BCE) and Rome's timeline from the Roman Republic to the Fall of Rome itself (503 BCE - 476 AD). So that is 1457 years for Greece, and 977 years for Rome.

I have also included tertiary choices such as Persia and Egypt, which are equally fascinating. With Persia lasting from 650 BCE to 651 AD after falling to the Muslims (rounding up to 1,299 years) and Egypt's massive history ranging from 3600 BCE to 30 BCE with the fall of Cleopatra and Marc Antony to... Rome. (A massive 3,569 years). Also a joke option, just for KIF.

Let the debate begin!

I picked Greece but I really enjoy learning about all of these, Greece was my model UN country in 5th grade though so I'm biased :kawhi

There really isn't a wrong answer because both civilizations are beyond fascinating just to hear about; and some of the antics they get involved in are fucking hilarious.

Also, when we talk about importance, Greece is too romanticised.

Roman Law is the most important thing that happened to the Western Culture (followed by Christianity; greek philosophy would be third); but i may be biased since i'm an atheist...

Rome-Greece in literature 'd be an interesting comparison.

It's hard to rank the literary prowess for the ancient writers.

But i'd try: Homer > Eurypides > Ovid > Virgil > Sophocles.

Euschylos (?) and Horace were/are overrated.

Thus: Greece > Rome
