I figured I'd start a thread series where I first look at the greatest superstar of the 80's, move on to the 90's, and then the 2000's. Since WWE has the dvds for each one. This is not your favorite but rather who you think is the greatest.

I hate to admit it but it's easily Hulk Hogan for me. The guy was a global icon. I wanted to say Ric Flair so badly but everyone in the world, wrestling fan or not, knew who Hulk Hogan was. Not everyone knew who Ric Flair was.

In your opinion, who is the greatest superstar of the 80's?

For me, it was Ric Flair. I don´t care about who people knew more. For me, Ric was the best

I don't care how big of a "global sensation" Hulk was, I'll never classify him as a good wrestler. For me, the greatest all around superstar was Randy Savage. I know he only was around from 85 - 90's but he was the greatest in those 5 years. And he too was known by a lot of people outside of the wrestling world. He always put on consistent matches, and wrestled in what most consider the best wrestling match of all time with Steamboat at WrestleMania 3. He helped the IC title become even more prestigious, and had an amazing program with Hogan.

Surprised thought this was gonna be useless and everyone said Hogan but it's good it didn't turn out like that. I'll split it up for myself.

Biggest impact & household name: Hogan of course
Best performer in the ring and on the mic: Ric Flair
The best mixture of both: Randy Savage

Flair. Hogan was a bigger national draw but "Naitch" meant just as much to NWA/JCP from 83-90 as Hogan did for WWE. And match quality is not close.

The Macho Man is a great wrestler from this era for his great mic skills, representation of the sport, and even the matches he had. If you were basing this on skill only I think it would probably go to Steamboat because he was a great athlete to watch wrestle.

I will have to say that the greatest superstar was Hulk Hogan. He got a lot of people to turn on wrestling and in turn, helped other promotions take off. I can only speak for myself, but Hulk drew you in and then you were able to see other wrestlers that were better. It went from people loving Hulk Hogan to learning to love wrestling. And that cannot be dismissed.

Of course, Ric Flair was a much better wrestler and once I got to see him on a weekly basis, a better personality, but I would've never started watching Ric, if not for Hulk.

Susan Lucci isn't the best actress, but everyone knows who Erica Kane is. Sometimes, you just gotta tip your hat and collect the extra money and attention you are now getting.

It's gotta' be Flair. Reasons have already been stated.
