Benoit for sure if I’m going just for the wrestler. Think Matt was the better Hardy n ring. Jeff had the greater star power.

If we're talking just strictly as a wrestler, it's Benoit.

Jeff Hardy more than mucked up his own reputation as being a spotty worker at the best of times and absolutely abysmal at the worst of times.

Jeff is still a world champ, tag champ and again probably one of the most influential wrestlers on today's generation along with CM Punk. this for me was extremely easy

Hardy. His continual fuck up's have hurt his career but he's always perpetually over everywhere he goes despite that and will be a Hall of famer like 5 times over once his career is done (which almost all took place in the century)

Benoit's one fuck up ended 3 lives and he only had 7 years of data for it so  I'd have probably voted for the murderer if he had 10 good years first here

I also think people really underplay Jeff's influence and popularity in t hat timeline. I know for a facts kids like you and younger ones like Blaze all idolized this guy and he literally changed the style of a the biz imo

edit: meant Blane but Im sure Blaze was also a fan

Everyone my age or younger went through a phase where Jeff Hardy was their favorite wrestler. Every 20 something year old in the business will tell you that rn

exactly, not a single person besides the biggest nerds went through a benoit phase unless they were trying to be edgy post murder.

not to discredit his in ring but yeah i dont get the glazing over a jacked up midcarder that was never gonna be a main eventer, ever

Tbf in 2004 Chris Benoit was certainly my favorite wrestler as well and I was a big fan up until 2006 when I wasn't watching, then the next news I heard was the murders.

Yeah, I was a big Jeff fan up til like, Victory Road, and then I soured on him for years, and eventually grew past it. But yeah, Jeff Hardy definitely is great.

fair enough. I still don't think that popularity was existent outside the wrestling bubble. I'm guessing it was more that most wrestlers could not match his intensity in the ring.

04, would that have been post rock and austin leaving? who were the stars then? hunter n co?

Benoit won the main event of WrestleMania that year in a three way between HBK and HHH after winning the rumble at #1. 2004 was the year of Evolution 6 man Raw main events that were amazing

Eddie was WWE Champ on SmackDown feuding with Angle and then losing to JBL
