Yep there’s like three different times they were going to squash them on TV or just not do it at all and he kept reiterating just let us do it on pay-per-view make people pay for it and he said it’s not like he didn’t want to job he was willing to be the most expensive best looking job ever, but he thought that he should get a blow off and the fact that nobody in management even saw the potential in him being squashed he knew that he needed to move on. He said if he had just gotten that one match, he would’ve signed a new contract with WCW.

It was 100% Hogan who was playing with Goldberg so bad because he’d tell him behind the scenes not to do the program with Jericho but supposedly then he turned around and he’d be in the meetings between Jericho and Bischoff and he was supposedly agreeing with Jericho that a pay-per-view blow off would be money.

Yeah, the whole Goldberg title reign was honestly trash. Not only did they rush the belt on him because I don’t think they should’ve given it to him at that time and they wasted a proper pay-per-view build up with Hogan that would’ve probably drawn a bigger buy rate than the one with sting, imo, but then what did he even do?

Like you said his very first pay-per-view was a squash with Curt Hennig, which they were already was planning to do but over the US title, so if that makes you feel like that was definitely well thought and not at all important. Then he didn’t even have a match at fall brawl at all. Not a main event not a title match nothing. At Rd wild he was thrown into the NWO Hollywood versus NWL Wolfpack battle Royal. The very first time he actually main event of the pay-per-view was the one with DDP but even that show the television for months is all built around the Hogan and Warrior match. The pay-per-view that Jericho wanted do the squash on was World War III and Goldberg wasn’t even booked on it again, so why couldn’t he just done the squash instead of not being on the show?

I get Nash and Hogan playing politics the way they did because it’s what gave them the money that they made but they definitely tried to kill Goldberg and they almost succeeded. I don’t think they killed him off completely because even in 2000 people would still chant Goldberg over anything else but if they had held off on Goldberg until World War III in 98, let Goldberg win World War III, and then he defeated Hogan at either Starrcade 98 or SuperBrawl 99, because the World War III winner usually changes between which pay-per-view that he gets a title shot at and then he won the belt from Hogan on pay-per-view after winning a proper royal rumble like event like you would build up a stone cold Steve Austin, Goldberg would’ve been the hottest star in 1999 if 1999 was like, basically all Bill Golderg’s title run. We’re talking a completely different ballgame for 1999 WCW and wrestling in general.

And the thing to his, even without him, winning the world title the program with Jericho would still be just as meaningful because he would still be the star on the rise and he also still presumably be the US champion so you could even have Goldberg finally gets hands on Jericho in the World War III battle Royal.
