The American Civil War

The American Civil War was a war fought between the United States of America (Union) and the illegal breakaway republic Confederate States of America (Confederacy), principally over the issues of the spread of slavery, secession, State's Rights, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln in 1860 C.E. The issues stemmed from the status of slavery as an implied "right" to the Southern cotton economy, the containment of slavery from said states, and the perceived eventuality of a federal ban on slavery. The war began on April 12, 1861 C.E., after the state of South Carolina fired upon the federally owned Fort Sumter. The American Civil War would last four years and end as the deadliest conflict in American history, the aftermath of which is still principally felt today. Following the end of the Civil War, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments; these amendments banned slavery (except in cases of conviction), made men of color equal in the eyes of the government, and granted the same minorities the right to vote... it would take another 100 years before discrimination was banned for private businesses, schools, and public accommodations with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. You, my fellow players, will be given a chance to portray some of the essential men during this time period, the glorious few who lived and died to free the slaves and bring about order and justice, whilst some shall stand in defiance against the great Union with hopes of a great ethno-nationalist empire of Protestant slave owners. These men are remembered, whether as heroes, villains, or unsung historical figures of great importance. Who shall stand supreme, will the Union once again prosper? Or will the Confederacy cry Dixie into Washington, and force their will upon those that can no longer save themselves? You have the power. |
