Gleat (stylised as GLEAT) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion, founded in 2020 by former Pro Wrestling Noah parent company, Lidet Entertainment and former Mixed Martial Artist and Professional wrestler, Kiyoshi Tamura after the acquisition of Pro Wrestling Noah and DDT Pro-Wrestling by CyberAgent. The promotion will emphasize the continuation of the UWFi combat-based style.
History[edit]
Since November 2018, advertising company LIDET Entertainment began investing in various business ventures in the branch of professional wrestling including Riki Choshu's Power Hall show in December 2018. On January 29, 2019, Lidet Entertainment bought 75% shares of Pro Wrestling Noah, with the attempt to relaunch the promotion as the second largest promotion in Japan after New Japan Pro-Wrestling. A year later due to Noah's financial struggles, Lidet Entertainment sold all shares of Pro Wrestling Noah to internet advertising company CyberAgent. Lidet President, Hiroyuki Suzuki wanting to continue to be involved with pro wrestling met with Kiyoshi Tamura in late January 2020 several days after the selling of Pro Wrestling Noah.[5] It was they collaborated with Kaz Hayashi & Nosawa Rongai who became Chief Technical Officer and Chief Strategy Officer respectively.
Gleat held its inaugural event called "GLEAT Ver. 0" on October 15, 2020 where it aired on Fighting TV Samurai on October 22, with the main event being Pro Wrestling Noah stable Sugiura-gun consisting of Takashi Sugiura, Kazuyuki Fujita and Kendo Kashin defeating Jun Akiyama, Shuhei Taniguchi and Daisuke Sekimoto.[6] The Noah relationship would cease after Gleat founding member and Pro Wrestling Noah booker Nosawa Rongai quit his positions at Gleat & Lidet Entertainment to focus on Noah.[7][8] Shoot-style veterans Minoru Tanaka & Daijiro Matsui were announced as having signed to the company shortly after, with Tanaka being given the UWF Rule Technical Officer role.[9][10]
Gleat would soon sign Yu Iizuka as their third trainee along with Soma Watanabe & Takanori Ito.[11] Gleat announced that they would run two separate divisions, G Pro Wrestling & Lidet UWF, in order to have more than just shoot-style wrestling. To add depth to their pro wrestling division, they signed #Stronghearts (Cima, El Lindaman, T-Hawk & Issei Onitsuka) after they had finished up with oWe, and Ryuichi Kawakami from Big Japan Pro Wrestling in exchange for cash.[12][13]
Due to the small roster, Gleat has had non-signed talents on their shows, notable names include Shigehiro Irie, Tatsuhito Takaiwa, Yutaka Yoshie, Syuri, Mitsuya Nagai, Takuya Wada, Ryo Kawamura and wrestlers from other promotions such as SHO from New Japan Pro Wrestling as well as Shinjiro Otani and Masato Tanaka from Pro Wrestling Zero1.
