Heavyweight champion, businessman, minister and proud Houstonian George Foreman died Friday at 76 years old, his family announced.

“Our hearts are broken,” the family wrote in an Instagram post. “With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.

“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.

His personality was a good gateway into watching boxing when he was on the HBO broadcasts.

Hard to believe he won the title at the age I am now. I hurt getting out of the car at least one third of the time.

He was born and lived for awhile in a town near where I grew up in so he was always a bit of a local legend. I never met him or anything but I knew where one of his houses was and drove past it regularly

Definitely gonna watch his movie on netflix now.
