either way that maad city record did a really good fucking job putting me in that exact neighbourhood at that exact time period, it was really well put together

My only issue with the album is it took me a couple listens to fully piece together the timeline of the day since it's not linear lol

I say all the time that to truly be a fan of rap requires a lot of context. A lot of lore goes into the shit that makes it extra good for those in the know. If you're not familiar with the stuff that's being referenced, it isn't gonna hit the same. Cause oftentimes they're talking about real life shit, not just telling a broad story that's easily digestible to a casual listener.

That's why Rapgenius (now just Genius) even became a thing. Most good rap songs need to be annotated. Unless you're deeply ingrained in the genre, you're probably not gonna understand every line.

I def find even just the visual lyrics in helps a lot for my suburban white ass
