Nah, my local high school team is called the Indians. It makes sense in context: my hometown is named after a Native American chieftain (who also happens to be a signatory of Traverse-des-Sioux, an official American treaty).

Yeah it's kind of the same thing here, named after Chief Sleepy Eye, his resting place is here, his smoking pipe is also at our local museum, and the Dakota tribe from which he was from is basically cool with it, so it's okay to use it. I just find it funny that my high school's teams are the Indians, and the Catholic school across town's teams are all the Knights.
