Still, there's a lot of genuinely great films from that time period that are horror films.

The classics of course, but then there's also the unheralded ones like The Black Cat, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, yada yada yada. Even The Mummy.

Honestly now that I think about it, The Mummy might genuinely be the most cinematically magnificent film Paramount has ever done.
