a lot of players will choose to play for a tier 2 league team in europe over the MLS for the hopes of career progression

It has seemed that way of late. I'd think the guys going over to pay in tier 2 leagues would probably consider starting off in MLS if things get a bit better, and only go over if the top leagues/teams want them.
