Basically, an ex-bandit is released from prison and finds that "The Wild West" has long been dead and in its place is the ravages of a modern society. His old gang is missing and he himself is older and changed since the wild times. He struggles to fit in in this new era, an outdated gunslinger who never had a chance to become a legend, so he tells stories of his days as a bank robber to a younger man, and how the railroad had brought with it laws and civilization.

Sort of a post-modern take on the Western and how a mythical gunslinger from that era would have reacted to the 20th Century
