pretty bad take by him but its also a near 100 year old viewpoint. just goes to show you how hard the american machine was working on demonizing communism above everything else. im not overly surprised. lots of countries downplayed that shit until it was too late with Germany

I mentioned yesterday, it would have been interesting to see how Lovecraft would have reacted to WW2 and the Holocaust. It likely would have shattered his whole belief system that was already wavering around that time.

I think the most interesting thing about Lovecraft was his ability to set aside his racism and anti-semitism in favor of helping the younger generation of writers.

and quite frankly, the USA is looking more like 1930s Germany everyday with the constant victimhood complexe and pretty obvious attempt by extremists to create a christian military state

I mean, half of his writing circle was Jewish and he married a Jewish woman; so on the surface, Lovecraft's definitely anti-semitic, but delving deeper into the guy reveals that it was less a real personal belief and more sheltered ignorance. Lovecraft never really did get out of his house much.

I'm basically just waiting until Russia is through with the Ukraine and after couple of months, maybe couple of years everyone kinda forgot what happened and let Russia be part of everything again

I think that's what makes him a fascinating person in general though. He's got these horrible beliefs and then he'll almost immediately contradict those beliefs through actions and letters.

So before I finally finish up talking about Lovecraft, I have a helpful hint for everyone here: If you ever get the chance to read Herbert West: Reanimator-- Read it as a dark comedy (as it was intended), not as a horror story. You'll find sooooo much more enjoyment with it.
