Like I know what is appropriate and what is being a goddamn creep. High fives? Perfect! Pat on the back, yes. Fist bumps? Cool beans. Otherwise unless it is some sort of emergency where I have to help a kid up or I'm directing them on like the position, nope.

And I always make sure there are some parents around just in case something happens. We also have the team's medicare numbers in case of injury, go over what happens if someone is hurt, we keep track of allergies, contact info of parents and other emergency contact numbers, etc.

Like we create protocol to avoid anything bad happening. We've even had times where we had to call the police about shady characters near the ball park. My dad does the same when he umpires these days.

I'll say this, youth sports or just any similar activity for a kid can be a great thing for them. Get in shape, make friends, learn some lessons outside of the game. But stories like that make it unnerving at times. I wouldn't dream of hurting a kid I coach because I just want to share a passion for the game with them and make sure they just have fun and get better at the game. But those horror stories just make it unnerving. Then also there are issues around toxic parents, maybe toxic locker room culture, etc. You have to be smart.
