Him aging so fast because of cloning actually does have a genetic basis too. Cloning requires a lot of telomeres, but because those telomeres themselves are cloned, they are used up faster than in a normal genetic DNA strang.

the nanomachines prevented the virus from affecting him as much as it should have I think. Because everyone else in MGS1 didn't have them, they died from the disease (except for Ocelot who was never affected by that stuff).
