So basically these Sicilian Mercenaries were having trouble with Syracusans attacking them, so they appealed to *both* Rome and Carthage to help them. So both did... and when both Rome and Carthage ran into each other, they just accidentally slipped ass first into war with each other.

Just like, "Oh, you're helping these guys? Well fuck you, we got here first!"

Maybe one made fun of the others armor or something

Thus led to 23 years of war.

It's honestly my favorite story for how a war began.

Of course after that we got Hannibal crossing the Alps to kick off the Second Punic War and Hannibal was a *god*

Yes he did. And he lost half of them while crossing the Alps.
