What I will give FC2 is that there was a nice system of missions where you would get the mission from one of the two main factions in the game but then a mercenary "buddy" of yours would give you an alternative slightly harder mission to do with them which could overrule the basic one.

But if someone had never played an MGS game before, I would STRONGLY recommend playing Metal Gear Solid 3 first.
