but I don't think Lakers would have won what they won though if it didn't happen. So it may have prevented or stunted the rise of Kobe.

without phil I don't think the lakers would have been as successful cause he basically just transferred his triangle offense to the lakers. treated Shaq and Kobe like pippen and Jordan in that offense scheme and reconstructed the team to work with it.
