Heat definitely dropped off, but I want to say it was a bit later than that. I vaguely remember 1998 Heat basically being SmackDown. SmackDown just made it irrelevant. But, it was def downgraded before SmackDown debuted, though.

I just miss PPV night Heats. So much better than Kickoffs.

It's weird how kickoffs feel more like part of the PPV than Heat did though, probably just bc it was already a weekly thing

The SmackDown PPV Heats were always funny bc you had Velocity the night before so it was like SD had two jobber shows that week

Maybe it's just that Russo spoiled me, but shit happened on Heat a lot that translated to the PPV. Like Austin and Taker gettign busted open before Fully Loaded. I don't feel anything important like that happened on Kickoff. They just slide PPV matches down when they run out of time.

Oh yeah, Raw got shafted that week. Raw shoulda got Velocity on their PPV weeks.

I don't think anything like that happened on Heat post '99 either tbh

Yeah, that's why I said maybe it was just Russo. I like making everything seem important.

A few kickoff shows have had stuff like battle royals where the winner got on the main card though

I remember one when they first started doing them had a battle royal start on the kickoff show but finish on the main card I think Christian won the IC title in it or something

Christian was still wrestling when the Network debuted?

I think it was when they were doing them on YouTube before the Network

They did them a year or two before the Network

And I don't even think they're on the Network bc I was watching Battleground 2013 and Damien Sandow got "injured" on the Kickoff show so he couldn't cash in during the WHC match...but the Kickoff show wasn't available
