Another Life is the mod that allows you to start the game different from vanilla.

i had a mod on pc that was a random start. you started as a random race/class which random gear and in a random camp

yeah another life is what i had, i couldn't think of the name but i knew it had the word another in it

Frostfall makes it so you can freeze to death, and with the Campfire mod, you can build a little temporary camp to survive. Eat, Sleep, Drink, Bathe is another mod that adds survival stuff to it. You get buffs and debuffs by managing thirst and hunger and sleep.

Then there's Alternate Death, which makes things more interesting. You don't automatically die, you go into your own NPC bleed out state, and if you survive long enough in that state, you get back up, just with low health.

in the base game there's a survival mode now you can turn on once you get outside the starting cave.

I believe that's actually Special Edition, not vanilla.

And then I play on Expert, because I don't want to dominate.

it adds the creation club stuff in special edition.

i play on normal and get my ass handed to me.

Like those mods and Expert difficulty are like the perfect survival mode setting.
