I think the only promoter who has ever been actually beloved and above board was Roy Shire for Big Time Wrestling in San Francisco.

I say this because there's the famous story of an electric worker's union shutting off the lights to a Big Time Wrestling show before the opening match, and the show had to be cancelled. Shire offered to pay the guys for coming to the show, but all of them declined a pay-out because of the unforseen circumstances.
