The internet killed kayfabe, but you can still present larger than life characters. WWE chooses not to. Lucha Overground actually kinda did for a while. Problem was its taped nature and money troubles.

No, I wouldn't have Austin and McMahon tweeting each other, but that doesn't mean Kayfabe wouldn't still be dead for most of the fans anyway.

I think the majority still prefers characters and angles. The Rusev/Lana stuff you derided gets the most views on YouTube. WWE just stopped trying to cater to them for a while.

I remember being literally into every single storyline during the attitude era...and I was like 15 at the time, grown enough to have the veil lifted.
