I honestly don’t understand how people back then could have full on conversations with their slaves, ask them questions, ask if they have a problem with something they’ve asked of them, refer to them as cranky, implying they understand their personality and emotions, and still not think of them as people.

It’s so wild to me. Humans have such evil in them.
