I kinda weigh Landis and Roman Polanski as pretty equal on my "Directors whom I will never watch a film from" scale, utterly shit human beings who escaped justice because this world sucks

if you can take an old trope that's been done a million times and make it still feel unique to your story, I'll tend to be even more impressed

the original stuff doesn't get promoted that well either, some still really good but I won't even hear about it until like a year later

Retreads will always be more appealing than original films.
