I think using Bray in exclusively gimmick matches hurts him as well, as they are more reliant on spots rather than the fundamentals. Bray's best matches have been ones that weren't overrelliant on the gimmick, such as the Elimination Chamber 3 v 3 in 2014 and Wyatt/Bryan in 2014

ya i dont see why he can't have like a 5-10 minute mat match, unless he really is that out of in ring shape

I feel like they booked him to keep him a monster and in doing so underbooked him. that Rumble match was trash and that's booking. Mania I feel like was supposed to be a proper return (though why lashley?) The story has needed to develop faster, honestly I think they got over excited to get him back rushed the return.

Bray can still go from some of these gimmick matches, like the strap match, but JEEZUS he needs to look like an in ring threat in a normal match rather than just another over-contrived gimmick match
