I can recommend X as well, it's actually my favourite horror movie this year. Kid Cudi I was surprised by how good he is in it too. The whole cast is pretty awesome. Dope filming style too, with the Texas Chainsaw inspiration.

By gruesome I mean realistic, long, and painful. Getting eaten by a shark (which mind you, Quint was deathly afraid of having to happen to him).

Quint just slides down into Bruce's mouth and it's horrifying how hard he tries to fight and stab the damn thing but can't.
