So dwarves aren't shut in miners who look on other races with suspicion?
Yep. All of that sort of culture has been straight up lost to time because of the Wilderness swallowing whole cities and disappearing them in horrible, natural life. So most races ended up having to actually work together despite their differences, and because Written History is straight up gone, millennia or centuries have passed long enough for races to sorta adopt a more regional culture.

But essentially the Wilderness, as its called, grew out of control and a heap of creatures began to overtake much of the continent; in these great forests of wood and death, we're talking shit like demons, devils, dinosaurs, animated plant-life, etc etc are all part of this apocalypse and rampant.

To expound upon this too, nobody even knows why it happened, just that it has. There's an idea that there are notes in one of the vaults deep in a mountain city, but nobody, not even the people in charge of the city, are allowed to view it, for the sake of everyone on the continent. They are afraid of these Old Era documents and fear that knowing too much would drive them to madness.

For sure. There's a set of orders to actually deal with the threats of the order, and there's also an entire labyrinth set in one of the cities that seemingly lasts forever. An apt comparison would be the Dungeon from Danmachi or Etrian Odyssey.

It is a place of mystery and may be tied to the apocalyptic events of the past.
