Once Upon A Time in the West is a grand sweeping celebration and eulogy for not only the Western as a genre of film, but as an "idea". The whole movie sees the "Wild" in "Wild West" dying from the rise of civilization, and characters like Harmonica, Frank, and Cheyenne know that this is not their world anymore
Giu La Testa, or as a probably more apt title, "Once Upon a Time... The Revolution" is an allegory for revolutions in general. People romanticize them, but real revolutions are bloody, dirty affairs where even relatively good people must do horrible things to achieve their goals. People die, and in the end, nothing truly changes save for who is at the top. The people on the bottom continue to suffer.
Once Upon in America told a gripping, gritty, and dirty story of the Mob life, even more so than any films like The Godfather or even Goodfellas. It is a beautiful film, but all the characters are vile people who kill, rape, and steal to survive. There is no truly "good" person in a MLB
