My biggest problem however is unignoring people after a time. Forgiveness and giving another chance and all that

I have some people ignored. But what I do is unignore when I need to see the context of a conversation or I give it another chance. I think 4 truly active people I ignore, one inactive I ignore for reasons which take a long-ass time to describe why, and then that banned creep named his_insanity, then a spam bot I ignored.
