I actually looked into this recently and unless it wasn't updated, it probably wouldn't have applied to cable or satellite news stations but I'm I'm sure if it was still a thing it would have been updated by now

Im of the belief that reporting the news is a fundamental principle of a functional society and we should have many systems in place to ensure we protect reporters and the truth, while not providing financial incentive to report said news. how to make that work is difficult but it is really the only proper way and was essentially why the newspaper and the likes were created originally. to allow the common folk to know the truth, and the truth should be a thing we as humans need to value a hell of a lot more and protect it from greed etc

Yes, it did, pretty effectively. The aftermath was what we're still dealing with. Hell, even in the 1960s, the most turbulent decade in the US, politics were never this bad.
